About the Artist
Werner F Schmidt, Garden Café art gallery artist of the month for July, 1997, last exhibited at the Garden Café nineteen years ago.
Dr Schmidt has been painting for more than fifty years; mostly landscapes and still lifes. Painting is the family trade: his father, grandfather, uncle, and two cousins were professional artists. All of the paintings in this exhibit are acrylics. The landscapes were painted in California, Oregon, Arizona, Italy, Germany, and Ireland.
Dr Schmidt is married; lives in Burlingame; has four sons, one daughter, and five grandchildren; and denies ownership of the cat who shares his home. He was educated at Yale and Stanford and is a retired physician--a general practitioner who whiled away quite a few years in the Army and also practiced 23 years in Millbrae--painting pictures on weekends.
He also writes plays and plays bridge; never plays golf.
